Luke 7:37-38
When a woman who had loved a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
Artist’s Interpretation:
The Pharisees were appalled that Jesus would let such a sinful woman touch him, so Jesus tells the parable of one who owed 500 denari and one who owed 50. Both debts were forgiven, so who will love the lender more? This woman had many sins forgiven, therefore weeps with fervor. Here, her tears flow into her hair and rise around the Christ through whom we are forgiven.
