From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD, his God… “In my distress I called to the LORD and he answered me…listened to my cry…brought my life up from the pit…I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord.”

Artist’s Interpretation:

Jonah, inside the belly of the fish, is going through the stages of change. The hands of God wrap around him, protecting him like the ribs inside, and molding him into the backbone, the person, the prophet he would need to be. Entering below amid the fish and seaweed, he then sits, contemplates, begins to pray, repents, and is eventually released to prophesy to Nineveh. Christ spoke of himself being recognized by the sign of Jonah; reborn after three days and resurrected to be a witness of God’s word and promise.
